This paper aims to investigate into the reading situation of non-English majors in China University of Geosciences. Based on the statistical results of a self-reported investigation on 100 second-year students, the author attempts to explore their reading beliefs and habits, background knowledge and discourse knowledge, reading strategies and weak points in reading question items. Finally, the thesis calls for greater efforts to regulate the existing reading methods and turn to more appropriate methods relating to students' reading situation and needs.
