Discourse analysis has become more and more important in field of English Language Teaching.Based on the "moves" theory and the "problem-solution" rhetorical pattern,this paper aims to discuss different communicative purposes related to discourse analysis with reference to the discourse structures.Also the implication of exploiting this analysis for teaching purpose will be discussed.
The ability to write effectively is becoming increasingly important, and instruction in writing is thus assuming an increasingly role in second language education, particularly the relationship between composition studies and second language studies has come to attract significant attention. The purpose of this paper is to discuss issues on academic writing confronted by student writers at graduate level. Much consideration has been given to the study of certain grammatical morphemes by researchers.The study of learners' use of morphemes through obligatory analysis has important implications for both second language acquisition and the second language teaching.It suggests that some linguistic features,particularly grammatical features,are inherently easier to learn than others.For example,in this study,the fact that learners master article before 3rd person singular suggests that article in some sense easier to learn.
More and more researchers have now agreed upon the necessity of teaching grammar, but it still remains controversial ashow to teach the forms, with the central consideration of not to harm the meaning-focused communicative teaching method. In thisessay, one of the issues in grammar teaching will be discussed as how to present new grammar to learners, through evaluating andmodifying a particular presentation activity in a grammar-teaching textbook.
The ability to comprehend academic lecture is an important part of the necessary proficiency of tertiary level students for whom English is a second or foreign language. The purpose of this research is to investigate the lecture-perceived experience of one non-nativespeaking learner who attending her English medium lecture course in the first semester in New Zealand. It describes how the learner perceives the lecturing experience, the problems she encounters and the strategies she use to overcome these problems.
